Learn how to write a rave review

Every day we use and buy products and services. How can we share our opinion with future consumers? It is very simple to do a review, but when we are asked for this type of writings in a exam there are several points to consider.

We will need an eye-catching title, since our goal is to engage the audience.

In the introduction we should use rhetorical questions, or make assumptions for example … do you imagine…? have you ever felt…? To capture the reader’s attention, if we use the pronoun “you”, the reader will feel that he is the addressee.

If the review is about a movie or a book, don’t give spoilers, we will only give an overview never reveal the end. But not only will we focus on the facts, but we must also pay more attention to give our opinion, which must be positioned and not neutral.

To reinforce our opinion, we will use an emotive language such as strong adjectives for example “overwhelmed” or “heart-breaking”.

To make our review sound good we can make use of literary resources such as alliteration (use of two words together beginning with the same letter “sweet sound”).

To make it more believable we can provide evidence such as statistics or some examples. It is always recommended to use the magic number: three to give reasons or examples.

If you follow these steps you will avoid being one of the students who pass the ‘writing’ by the skin of your teeth. You belong to the side that astonishes the examinators.
